Applying a little Hayven Celestia to Chakats

I've been enjoying Rick Griffin's Hayven Celestia universe a great deal since being introduced to it through the Final Days of the White Flower II series. It's a furry future alternate-universe science-fiction space adventure that feels like a universe where a species like chakats might naturally exist.

Rick thought of a few of the problems with FTL travel, so travel happens through wormhole gates. Lots here interests me, and I'll likely be referencing pieces of the world here into the chakat-focused story I've been writing.

One species I find interesting (aside from the primary focus, the Geroo, very cute anthro kangaroos) is the Ringel. They're sex-forward societally and also view changing their gender as a common practice.

I'm taking the widely available ability to customize genitalia based on what a person's identity says about them for my universe. This will be the in-universe explanation why Skystryder has an equine penis (even though my own OC won't appear in the story).

I'm also taking some ideas around gates as well, specifically for communications. The idea of micro-wormhole based communication feels more natural to me than the traditional hand-waving Star Trek does with subspace communications.
